Cohen Memorial Home

The Cohen Memorial Home is where the idea for Mitakuye Oyasin took off. Andrea Jimmerson visited the Cohen Home on her first visit to Pine Ridge, and was heartbroken to see the beds the residents were sleeping in were very old and in disrepair. Although the home had capacity for 22 residents, they only had 17 beds. As the only assisted living facility for the elderly on the reservation, this made space even more precious.
One of the first acts of Mitakuye Oyasin was to raise money to buy all new beds, box springs and mattresses for the Cohen Home, which allows them to operate at full capacity.
Each year, Mitakuye Oyasin talks to the leaders of the Cohen Home and tailors fundraising efforts to the needs of the home each year.
Donations to this project go to different things each year including, but not limited to, sheets, pillows, toilet paper, shampoo, conditioner, denture care products and more.
